MYRON LAWRENCE LIEBRADER  
A native of Brooklyn
former resident of Sunnyside and Bayside
died on January 31, 2003 at the age of 73. 
He was the son of Sol and Estelle Liebrader, 
husband of the late Barbara. 
Survived by son Andrew, daughter Donna, son-in-law Kevin and grandson Brandon. 
He is also survived by brother Fred and sister-in-law Ginny. 
He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and earned a Bachelor of Science and 
Masters Degree from New York University. 
He spent two years in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. Liebrader started teaching 
social studies at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood in 1954. He was then promoted 
to assistant principal-organization and then to principal. His career at Grover Cleveland 
lasted 47 years, which is a record for the most years spent by one person in the same high 
school building in the history of the New York City school system. He became Grover Cleveland’s 
principal in 1971 and remained in that position for 30 years before retiring in 2001 as the 
most senior high school principal in the New York City school system. While principal at 
Grover Cleveland, he earned many awards and honors. These included the Educational Leadership 
Award presented by the Jewish Teachers Community Chest, Effective Leadership Equals Effective 
School Award by the Council of Supervisors and Administrators, the Jubilarian Award by 
Chancellor Crew and the Council of Supervisors and Administrators for 30 years of service 
as a supervisor in the New York City public schools. He served as president of the New York 
City Principal’s Association and won the Principal of the Year Award given by the National 
Association of Secondary School Principals. He mentored many teachers who then took on 
leadership roles in the school system. More teachers working under his direction went on 
to become supervisors and principals than any other principal in the history of the school 
system. He taught a secretarial coaching course at Queensborough Community College to prepare 
secretaries for the New York City School System
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and 
a past president of the Lakeside Towers Cooperative Board
He was a member of the school board at Temple Beth Sholom in Flushing and also served on its 
board of trustees.

He started his working career in The American Manufacturing Co. in Greenpoint. 
Later, he was a deckhand on the S.S. Onteora, a Hudson River cruise ship
He was employed for many years with Shell Oil Co. and then with independent contractors in 
the gasoline field. A resident of Middle Village for more than 60 years, he moved with his 
sons to Medusa in 1999
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Puchis) Murphy. 
He is survived by his two sons, Thomas and Dennis of Medusa 
and his sister, Elizabeth Weymann of Pensacola, Florida. A

He retired in 1985 as assistant vice-president of the Ridgewood Savings Band and was past 
president of the Queens County Bankers’ Association and president of the Summerfield Corporation
He was honored with a plaque naming the Glenridge Senior Center building in his name, 
and was very active in the modernization of the building. Active for many years in community 
affairs, he was a 57-year member and past commander of the Joseph B. Garity American Legion Post #562 
and had been a member of the Garity Drum Corps in his youth. As a Garity Legionnaire, he 
represented the American Legion as Grand Marshal in the 2000 Memorial Day Parade.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the 101st Army Medical Corps, 23rd General Hospital 
in Africa, Italy and France
He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 31 in Ridgewood as a youngster and took part in many reunions. 
He also worked with the Boy Scouts at Old First Presbyterian Church and St. Pancras Church. 
The St. Pancras Troop planted 1,000 trees in the Catskill Mountains and received an award for 
reforestation and environmental control
He was a charter member of the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society and assisted with the 
restoration of the Vander-Ende Onderdonk House and participated in the Oktoberfests sponsored 
by the society.
He was a former member of the Glendale Kiwanis.

She was born and raised in Romania and lived in Ridgewood for 35 years before moving to 
Milford, Pennsylvania in 1990. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Saint Vincent DePaul 
R.C. Church in Dingman Hills, Pennsylvania. 
She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Michael, who died on May 24, 2002. 
Survivors include her two loving daughters: Anne Guimond of Parsippany 
	and Josephine Schultz of Milford; 
her dear stepdaughter Margarete Bonkiewicz of Endwell, New York; 
and her eight cherished grandchildren and four cherished great-grandchildren.
