He is also survived by brother Fred and sister-in-law Ginny. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and earned a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from New York University. He spent two years in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. Liebrader started teaching social studies at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood in 1954. He was then promoted to assistant principal-organization and then to principal. His career at Grover Cleveland lasted 47 years, which is a record for the most years spent by one person in the same high school building in the history of the New York City school system. He became Grover Cleveland’s principal in 1971 and remained in that position for 30 years before retiring in 2001 as the most senior high school principal in the New York City school system. While principal at Grover Cleveland, he earned many awards and honors. These included the Educational Leadership Award presented by the Jewish Teachers Community Chest, Effective Leadership Equals Effective School Award by the Council of Supervisors and Administrators, the Jubilarian Award by Chancellor Crew and the Council of Supervisors and Administrators for 30 years of service as a supervisor in the New York City public schools. He served as president of the New York City Principal’s Association and won the Principal of the Year Award given by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He mentored many teachers who then took on leadership roles in the school system. More teachers working under his direction went on to become supervisors and principals than any other principal in the history of the school system. He taught a secretarial coaching course at Queensborough Community College to prepare secretaries for the New York City School System He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and a past president of the Lakeside Towers Cooperative Board He was a member of the school board at Temple Beth Sholom in Flushing and also served on its board of trustees.
