The Week of January 4, 2001 JOSEPH F. CROWLEY Sr., A longtime resident of Maspeth Died on December 27, 2000 at the age of 70. He was the beloved husband of Eileen. Loving father of Maura Crowley-Martinez, Congressman Joseph Crowley, Eileen Crowley-Clinton and Sean Crowley. Dear brother of John, Walter, Anne, Maryrose, Margaret and the late Kathleen. Also survived by nine grandchildren. He attended St. Mary’s of Winfield and Holy Trinity High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War. After his discharge, he became a member of the New York City Police Department, advancing to the rank of Detective. While serving on the police force, he attended St. John’s College and St. John’s Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1965. Following his retirement from the police force, he entered private practice with his brother, Walter. He was a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Queens County Bar Association and the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Hudson Council, a member of Division 18 and Past President of the Queens County Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a member and counsel to the County Cavan P & B Association. The Caponegro brothers, Peter, Robert and Frank, joined their father’s urology practice that was established in the 1930’s. The practice has continued to serve the Ridgewood community despite the death of father Francis Caponegro in 1960 and Peter’s brother Frank in 1988. Peter practiced medicine for more than 42 years and was board certified in the following specialties: General Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Urology, an accomplishment which very few physicians have achieved.
